We've needed stair covers to provide a bit of traction for our 2yr old and a small dog.  Investment needed to be modest and the covers could not damage the wood as we're renting.

The Sydney mats are very basic but feel sturdy.  They are attached by a 1in adhesive strip which sits towards the edge of the stair.  This can be removed without damage by a hairdryer and a little cleanup of the glue left behind.

The stair mats aren't as soft as they appear--texture is that of a doormat.  And as the adhesive is only on one edge, the inner edge can curl up a bit if it gets caught on something.  It's possible it could pull the whole thing off, but unlikely.

In short: not something I'd put in a nicely decorated space, but seems like it will hold up well enough.  Good value for the cost.
